The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Voice Anger Over Size Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in products showing incorrect sizing.
This online marketplace has revised its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes without notifying every member regarding the update.
Social Media Response
Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display a different size category versus the original listing as a result of the reclassification.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to check their listings and update the measurements by hand if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Sizing System Updates
Previously, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Member Stories
One content creator, who creates plus-size fashion videos, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
A different member, located in Scotland, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".
"This situation is especially annoying, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Marketplace Information
The app has more than 100 million users, including 18 million in the UK.
It has become a favored option compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion when a surprising modification within the service has received backlash: last year, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
